Technology was developed at the beginning to serve humans, but now, it is used as a weapon against them. The most commonly used techno-gadget is your smart mobile phone.

Once this tiny device prevailed in the world, questions of cell phone privacy, cell phone safety, and mobile phone insurance started to pop out in the form of complaints by users.

Their complaints could be also a part of your question on how to secure your mobile phone and get malware protection. As more advent is achieved in the technological field, online banking emerged allowing users to open a business checking account online.

But there is one thing that technology could not realize so far: which is the invention of a personal cash machine at home. Still, you can always withdraw your money through the ATM.

Sadly, Hackers managed to break into the systems of several banks and steal millions from people’s money. How can you tell then that an ATM is hacked? Keep on reading to discover the answer!

    1. Be careful with using ATMs in the open

You can create your own online bank account, but to withdraw your money, you necessarily need to go to an ATM. But you should not use any ATMs that you find in a dark corner or in an unknown street. These ATMs are usually managed by professional skimmers and hackers.

If you feel any doubts and suspicions, then you’d better avoid using them. Before using any ATM next time, ask yourself about how accessible the ATM may be to thieves and hackers?

Is the ATM placed in a guarded place and locked at night? Of course, not every ATM out there is dangerous, but you need to be careful anyway just in case.

    2. Check for hidden cameras

ATM hackers focus on two important things; stealing your data and obtaining your PIN number. How do you think they access the PIN numbers? Through cameras which are mostly hidden somewhere in the keypad.

So before taking out your card, once you arrive at an ATM, examine the keypad a bit. Remember that spy cameras are supposed to be small and placed in unsuspicious places so that no one would think they exist there.

Check the spots which are close enough to the keypad to get the best shot of the PIN number. There is an easy way to avoid having your PIN stolen.

This is through using one of your hands to conceal the keypad while entering the PIN with the other. This way, prying eyes will have no access to your PIN nor to your account.

    3. Search for strange protrusions around the ATM

It is important to look for any off-color plastic placed next to the top of the cash machine. Don’t underestimate any little details you can notice because it could be the exact spot where a spy camera is placed.

Sometimes, hackers can put so much effort into designing a camera which could be blended innocently with given ATMs. But this does not mean that you cannot spot it, just keep your eyes wide open.

Most people think it could be housed in pinhole which has the perfect shooting angle of your ATM’s keypad. Such a tiny device can record all the PINs entered during the day to be sent to the hackers who will take care of the rest.

    4. Remember to study the instructions and diagrams on the ATM panel

Hackers could be classified as the most dangerous cybercriminals with the most unbelievable degree of intelligence.

They are ready to do anything to get what they want. Behind the panels of the ATMs, they plant those storage devices and magnetic strip readers that record the entered data of slotted credit cards.

So, just stand there for a moment and study the ATM a bit. How? In case you lay your eyes on queer discrepancies between the directions which are printed of the ATM or odd color shifts, then using another cash machine is the safest and wisest decision to take.

    5. Studying together with jiggling the card slot

Watch out! The card slot is also a weapon that hackers may use against you! The fake card readers will usually record the data which is found on your debit card.

Usually, fake card readers need to have their place over the original card slot, you can spot one of them by rocking the slot back and forth for instance. If the slot seems to be wiggly, then your data is about to be stolen along with your PIN number.

Check if the card slot is in conformity with to the instructions found on the face of the ATM. If there are any ATM close to the one you want to use, then check if the slot card design is the same.
On the whole, no one can access your bank account unless s/he has got your PIN number and the recorded data on your debit card.

The latest tech gadgets are just like the ATMs; double-edged weapons. One tip could serve you, while the other can hurt you. You don’t want to end up broke and incapable of paying even your cheap phone bills.
