3. You have too many app notifications enabled
Allowing each app you install to send you all types of notifications and alerts is a huge mistake. You don’t need gossip news apps to let you know that a celebrity couple had just broken up. That will only make app notifications completely useless and consume your precious battery. Think about it, every time you get one notification, your screen lightens up, and you feel compelled to use the smartphone to see what happened. Besides, you are also allowing the app to refresh itself in the background to see if there is something new to show you.
4. You automatically download applications’ updates
For safety and functionality reasons, you should always keep both your operative system and applications updated. But enabling automatic updates can be very tricky, simply because they might start at the wrong time. Updates typically consume a lot of battery because your smartphone will both download and install the update. So, if you are trying to save your battery to last you through the day, it would be a bummer if the download starts at that exact moment.
5. You always have the maximum screen brightness
Your screen is the most power-hungry part of your smartphone. That’s why larger screens (and higher resolution ones) still have the worst battery performance than smaller ones – assuming they’re using a battery with the same capacity. That becomes even more obvious if you always have a bright screen and a brightly colored wallpaper and theme. The good thing, you don’t really need a lot of brightness when you are indoors. So, make sure to adjust this setting to keep your phone battery running for longer.
6. Extreme temperatures
Extremely hot and cold temperatures might damage your smartphone’s battery. Smartphones are designed to operate with its components between 32º F and 100º F. In case the outside temperatures deviate from this interval, you will start experiencing shortened battery life, random shutdowns, and even screen smearing. If you live in an area where these kinds of extreme temperatures may occur, you need to take some precautions such as turning your smartphone off when you are outside or keep it in your pocket. And never charge it outdoors!
